Student Ambassador Program

Welcome to the Social Sciences Ambassador Page!

Here at the Social Sciences we have 20 ambassador representing all 12 of our departments.

Ambassadors share their experiences, give advice and provide guidance to prospective students interested in the 12 programs offered through the Social Sciences program. We are committed to making your journey to McMaster as smooth as possible!

You can meet our Ambassadors on tours, through a one-on-one virtual chat, at our campus events or via our ‘Ask a Soc Sci’ virtual form. We can’t wait to connect with you!

What do Ambassadors do?

Take part in 30-minute 1:1 conversations with prospective students looking to learn and understand more about McMaster Social Sciences. It is helpful for them to have the opportunity to connect with current students who are able to share their personal experiences and give much needed guidance about the university experience the Social Sciences has to offer.

Lead tour groups at key recruitment events (Fall Previews and May@Mac) and throughout high school March break week here at McMaster. Tour guiding provides ambassadors with the opportunity to gain more knowledge about Social Sciences programs and McMaster, as a whole as well as a chance to enhance communication and leadership skills.

Ambassadors help plan and coordinate events that cater to the interests of students within the faculty. For international ambassadors, this includes organizing events specifically for international students, fostering connections through shared experiences. Additionally, there may be opportunities to collaborate with program societies or the MSSS on various events. Our goal is to build a strong and caring community of Soc Sci’s ready to take on the world.

Become one of the star faces on our @mcmastersocsci media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok and help engage all of our prospective and future students in Social Sciences content. Gain experience working with the Faculty of Social Sciences Communications Team on various social media projects.

Get the opportunity to write about your experiences as a McMaster Social Sciences student through our new blog and answer questions that will help prospective students get excited about McMaster and all we have to offer. Take creative lead on your own blog pieces and bring your student story to life, whether that be about courses, clubs & societies, co-op, internships, residence, study spots on campus and the McMaster experience!

Hear from the Ambassadors

Maia (She/Her)

Health, Aging & Society

Being apart of the Ambassador team has been one of the highlights of my undergraduate experience! I’ve learned so much about leadership and I love being able to be one of the first friendly faces prospective students meet when beginning their university search experience. It’s been so fun meeting new people throughout the faculty and making some really great professional connections! It’s great to know that all the Ambassadors love Mac Soc Sci and our community.

Darya (She/Her)

Social Work

Being able to showcase and connect with the McMaster community through the ambassador program has been such a special part of my undergraduate journey. With a team so dedicated to supporting student initiatives and empowering the student voices behind them, working as an ambassador constantly reminds of how proud I am to be a marauder from the faculty of social sciences.

Zoey (She/Her)

Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour

I thoroughly enjoyed my year as an ambassador for the Social Sciences Faculty as I got to connect with prospective students year long, and help incoming students feel more comfortable and confident in their place at our school. I know how scary it can be to come to a big university and how many questions I had but no one to answer them. I love supporting students in the way I needed as an incoming student.

Aryan (He/Him)

Economics

Being a Social Sciences Ambassador has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to give back to the community by sharing my journey and insights with current and future students. Representing the Faculty of Social Sciences has strengthened my connection with the faculty and provided opportunities to engage with a diverse group of individuals, both locally and internationally. The ambassador team is exceptional, fostering a sense of camaraderie that makes the experience truly enriching and enjoyable.
